Scion the Hedgehog

This is something I've been wanting to do fairly recently. This is a new character based on my oldest created Sonic fancharacter, Sanjuro the Hedgehog. Meet Scion the Hedgehog.

For those familiar with my online history, before becoming active here on deviantART as a Sonic fanartist, I was actually previously more known in the Sonic spriting areas of the community. During my time as an active spriter, my public persona character first created back in 2003 was the blue hedgehog known as Sanjuro the Hedgehog:

That blue hedgehog would go on to be used as the the public representation of me, and as time went on becoming renamed to Sanjen the Hedgehog in accommodation to the original story I was working on at the time, so my hedgehog character started to become more like my story's protagonist:

Eventually when I dropped that story of mine and became more invested in the Sonic fandom, I dropped the more original aspects of the character in order to simplify him to be more Sonic-like in design, eventually becoming the character now known as Silence the Hedgehog:

Just really wanted to give a brief run down history of my blue hedgehog character over the years before I go into detail about this new character of mine; based on the original Sanjuro the Hedgehog.

Back in late 2002/early 2003, I had discovered AkumaTh's Sonic sprite comic series, which I had spent a few days reading in one sitting, haha. I was deeply inspired by the series and wanted to be able to do the kinds of things he did with his characters and comics. However, long before I even did reveal myself to the spriting community, I had spent a few months offline practicing with sprites and making comics, which gave birth to the character in question, the black Sanjuro the Hedgehog:

As you can see, black!Sanjuro was made during the very edgy period of my creativity, his character and storyline being much darker in nature. The story itself in these comics had no real direction either, so not even I to this day know what was even happening, haha! At the time I was still following AkumaTh's series over at WarpedIncz, and before I decided to finally join the forum, I had decided to change Sanjuro from his darker design into the more light-hearted and relatable blue hedgehog seen above.

Though despite the black hedgehog design being replaced by the blue one, it was later on in Sanjen the Hedgehog's development that I did bring back the black design, making Sanjen the Hedgehog and Sanjuro the Hedgehog two separate characters:

Sanjuro was a separate entity that existed within Sanjen, and acted antagonistically whenever he came to surface. Both characters would be dual representations of myself as my persona characters during this period of time. But as mentioned above, once I dropped my original story and started to become more active in my Sonic fandom, Sanjen became Silence the Hedgehog, and the concept of Sanjuro was lost up until now. Scion the Hedgehog is basically Sanjuro given the same treatment I've given to Sanjen into Silence, displaying him in a more Sonic-like light!

There isn't much I can say at this stage about his character since this was more done just for fun. I do have a story in mind for him, but I still need to work out the kinks before I start refining it more. For now, think of Scion here as more of a bad future!Silence of sorts! Art-wise this was fun to do, still doing a bit of colouring practice while trying to come up with a consistently appealing style.
